my awastats log file is getting hit hard by spam. how can i stop this?

are your stats open to the world? Normally they get pounded when they are publicly viewable and spidered.

people say i can use robots.txt or whatever to solve it.

do these spam spiders really pay attention to the robots.txt?

Make sure no one can reach your AWStats by setting up a passwor.d

Even password protecting your stats won't actually totaly stop the spammers however it will stop them benefiting from it. If you don't protect your stats you will probably get hit more often. My stats have always been password protected but I still get spammed on average twice a day.

Aha, just been thinking about that myself.

Are there any password protect scripts floating around? Simple pop-up window style would suffice, I think.
