Hi, I see this kind of thing happening on several sites I run and using AWstats:

Connect to site from:
Links from an external page (other web sites except search engines) -

- http//exampledomainname.com 0 82
- http//www.ExampleDomainName.com 0 29
- http//www.exampledomainname.com 0 221

Sept 2005:
Unique visitors, Number of visits, Pages, Hits,

19, 26, 44, 755,

Several issues with this. First, if that last set of numbers (adding up to 332) is really traffic coming from other sites or perhaps as a result of forwarding/domain pointers, then why are the numbers not reflected in the total uniques, number of visits and pages? The site has only 19 uniques and 26 visits but the 3 fields add up to 332? How could that be?

And why are the first set of numbers all zero's? What data does the zero field represent?

Also wondering if the 332 could in fact mostly be coming from domain pointers since I do have 2 other good traffic typein domains pointing (also using masked forwarding) to that website?

Any help is appreciated.

first column is pages viewed, if it is zero, no pages were viewed but you got hits.

second column is hits.

They do not count as anything except hits and may not even be counted as hits in the hits total if awstats filtered them as robots.

* Not viewed traffic includes traffic generated by robots, worms, or replies with special HTTP status codes.

Its probably from someone using an image or something non-page on their website. Take a look at the raw log file and simply search for the mystery referring URL and that should give you a better idea.
