I have a basic ASP form on my client's site: name/city/email and comment box and they are getting the occasional fake info and nasty comments and would like to know who from.
I assume there isn't a way with a form like this to track anything because it is sent through the client's server, and i would have to just post an email link for comments if they want to track?
Their IT person suggested I track it by "having the host turn on the tracking mechanism". I am not sure what that is or would do or what to ask the host for. It is a windows host, would that be "tracert"? and would that help at all?
hmmm
'having the host turn on the tracking mechanism'
sounds like someone who doesn't quite know what they are talking about enough to refer to it by it's proper name.

pretty much, and you're right an email link would give you more info, though even this could be fake.
there are methods to protect against the fake info being submitted but not really any way to figure out who is doing it aside from the methods youo already mentioned.
