I've been reading and using the Brian Clifton book, Advanced Web Metrics with Google Analytics ever since I learned about it being published last March.

Here's a book that is written by a true expert, and filled with the most practical help for real-world webmasters.

It's written so that a relative novice can understand, but it also goes into serious depth. What I appreciate most is that Clifton is strongly oriented to business goals. In other words, it's not just an instruction manual for GA, but the overriding focus includes the reason you would want to execute this or that feature. There is great advice for how to get your GA account to sit up and do the tricks that you always wanted it to do!

The book is also a beautiful example of the typographer's art, with nice wide leading, easy to read layouts, and page numbers in a "thumb position" spot, rather than at the page's top or bottom. Very intelligently done!

Brian joined Google in 2005 to define, develop and lead the Google Web Analytics team for Europe, Middle East and Africa. His previous business was the first UK Partner for Urchin Software Inc., which of course then became Google Analytics.

Clifton's first-hand knowledge of GA just jumps at me from the book, and the "hacks" section is something only an insider with a love of the topic could produce. You can read more and find special download scripts at the website: [advanced-web-metrics.com...]

I've already advised several clients to distribute this book to their team members, and I expect that I will continue to do that for quite a while.

Brian is also a WebmasterWorld member and a PubCon attendee. His member name here is GAGuy, so if you get some advice from him on a question you ask, appreciate and value the source.

Is anyone else reading or using this book? I'd love to hear if and how others are finding value.
