Just curious as to what service is the most popular for up to date statistics in regards to visitors, page visits, unique visitors, referrers, etc? Is Google Analytics the best? If so, how frequently does it update your statistics?

Analytics is one of the better free ones, and it's every 24 hours. Usually the stat trackers given to you by good hosting companies are better than the free ones though.

I use Google for the most part. the one my host offers is clunky as hell, and there's always a big difference between the two (the hosts' numbers are always higher). I'm not sure which one to trust more, but I'd rather go with the conservative figures for safety.

I use mint (real time update costs around $30 per domain) and webalizer (24 hour cycle) and google analatics (24 hrs) product.
