Google has been doing this for a while, they're using an onclick javascript redirect to help them track click throughs. Its been reported it does this almost 100% of the time for firefox users.

Thanks Prolific. That must be it. I had read about that but did not make the connection. And yes they were browsing with FireFox. I wonder what they are up to with just tracking FireFox users that way?

Since Firefox users are more sophisticated and intelligent on average, maybe G wants to track their browsing habits to help fine tune their ranking algorithms. I'm sure they had Joe-sixpack@AOL.com scoped out early on. -LH
