Hi, I am new to WebTrends. I have successfully started receiving reports, however I am having some trouble setting up and including query paramters.

Our reports are not showing our website's individual pages. We are only receiving reports on the directories of our website. I am unable to see any individual .asp pages. eg: reports only show

../products/ instead of ../products/default.asp or ../products/product1.asp

I have included the SDC tracking code on each page. In my profile i noticed the Exclude All Query Parameters is checked. I am unable to un-check this option. I have also read something about page title query's. Is this automatically in the SDC code? Please advise...If someone could just point me in the right direction that would be great! I am a complete NEWBIE!

Thanks so much :) I really appreciate it!

Hi Vicky, welcome to WebmasterWorld and WebTrends!

You asked several questions.

1. Only seeing directory information. What exact report table are you looking at when you see this? The Pages report?

2. Exclude All Query Parameters. Where do you see this? I couldn't find that phrase in the WT interface.

3. Page title queries and SDC. You do not need to check this box if you are using SDC.

4. What version (8.0, 8.1, etc) are you using?

5. Do your .asp pages have query parameters that you want to show up, like, like "default.asp?category=23kk"?

Wow Thanks so much for replying to me so quickly! You guys are awesome!

1. Only seeing directory information. What exact report table are you looking at when you see this? The Pages report?

Yes, I go into Site Design, then Pages. I see no individual pages in my reports. It only gets as far as the directory and then no pages.

2. Exclude All Query Parameters. Where do you see this? I couldn't find that phrase in the WT interface.

If you go to Administration --> Web Analysis --> Options --> URL Rebuilding --> I then see a heading title Name, and under it Exclude all Query Parameters. This can also be see if you edit your profile under Advanced --> URL Rebuildind --> Exclude all Query Parameters radio button is selected

3. Page title queries and SDC. You do not need to check this box if you are using SDC.

4. What version (8.0, 8.1, etc) are you using? I am using 8.1 I think as we only purchased it last month. We have the On Demand solution.

5. Do your .asp pages have query parameters that you want to show up, like, like "default.asp?category=23kk"?

Yes. I have a template page called default.asp. On this page the middle ontent area is pulled into the page via an asp script. The middle content section could be called home.inc.asp or product1.inc.asp. I have added the SDC code to these default.asp templates, and even added some of the code to the content pages too!

We had a limited amount of support from our resller. The told me the reason I was unable to see reports for individual content pages was because I did not have query parameters enabled. When I went to the page he told me to go to (Profile --> Edit --> Advanced --> Url Rebuilding) i found it was not possible to uncheck this button.

So in a nut shell....how do I go about seeing basic information for individual pages. Any help would be appreciated! I am not a technophobe, however this product is challenging! I really appreciate any help!

Sorry...forgot to include how our URL's look:

/default.asp?id=home

or an exact example: [#*$!...]

Thanks

Heh, the quickness with a fluke.

1. For URL Rebuilding, you can't "uncheck" things because they are round radio buttons. A detail, I know. What you have to do is check something else, which will uncheck the original. I assume there are other choices in the list. So, go to that setting and check one that says "suppress WT.* parameters" or something similar to that. Then, only the WT.* parameters won't show in your reports.

If there is nothing else available in the list, make your own URL Rebuilding definition and check the box that says "suppress WT.* parameters." Then go back to the main screen and activate it.

2. Edit your profile and in the General section go to the Home tab. What appears in the Home Page File Names box? I always put some kind of unmatchable nonsense in there, like "xksksks.asp". If it currently says "default.asp" right now, that's why you're not seeing it in reports. WebTrends will remove it. There is a good reason for WT doing it this way but it actually doesn't apply to you or most of us, so it's probably best if you replace it with a nonsense page name.

3. My #2 above does not explain why you are not seeing product1.asp pages in that report, however. If you can email me the identity of your site I will take a close look at your situation. It's probably the fastest way to sort this out. Big question: is the content in frames or iframes?

4. To get the id= etc parameters to show in reports, you need Page File Types settings as well as URL Rebuilding settings. The Page Files Types tab is in the General area of the profile settings. Find the "asp" line and make sure the setting is to NOT truncate parameters.

5. Are you not allowed, because of your reseller information, to call WT tech support? They are really good.

1. I went into Web Analysis --> Options --> URL Rebuilding and click New Definition button. I saw this:

Name
Type in a name for this URL rebuilding definition as you would like it to appear in your reports.

I added page ID in there

For example: Exclude session ID

Then I went to Profile --> Edit --> Advanced --> URL rebuilding and there was a new option! Include parameters! I could no select that option which meant that Exclude All Query parameters was un-selected. Only there two options are available. nothing else.

2. In the Home --> Home Page Files were the following:
default.htm default.html index.htm index.html default.asp default.aspx

I removed them as you said and added dfdsfsdf.asp

3. I sent you an email with our URL :)

4. When I go to Profile --> Analysis --> General I only get the following headings:

Name, Analysis Job, Express Analysis, Time Zone, Customize DST behavious. I see no page file types options. Any idea where I could look?

5. We contacted the only reseller in Canada, and they said the included in our On Demand
purchase we would receive basic set up help. I have only contacted them twice. The first was an error with our reports (their fault) the second was this issue. They told me this was part of their consultation service and nothing to do with basic set up! I feel a little annoyed to be honest! As we have not even started to receive one individual page report yet!

Sorry in number one I set up a new Include Parameter called 'include parameter', and set the parameter to be pageid I then selected this in the Profile --> Advanced --> URL rebuilding.

:)

I have viewed the webtrends tutorial videos on how to set up content group parameters. I am going to try adding some content groups and sub content groups to my pages and see what turns up in the reports!

OK so I think I understand a little more about what information I am after! After viewing the tutorials I realise I have dynamic pages on my site. How do I get these dynamic pages to show up in the reports? I have added some contents and sub content meta tags to a few of my pages. these pages are not showing up in my reports

Hi Vicky, how's it going? Sorry for the long pause.

I realized from your feedback that I misdirected you. I said: "4. To get the id= etc parameters to show in reports, you need Page File Types settings as well as URL Rebuilding settings. The Page Files Types tab is in the General area of the profile settings. Find the "asp" line and make sure the setting is to NOT truncate parameters."

I should have said: "4. To get the id= etc parameters to show in reports, you need Page File Types settings as well as URL Rebuilding settings. The Page Files Types tab is in the ANALYSIS area of the profile settings ("General" is one of its sister tabs). In the Page Files Types tab, find the "asp" line and make sure the setting is to NOT truncate parameters."

Also, regarding your URL rebuilding definition, can you confirm that what you did was this: you created a new definition where all parameters are excluded except pageID ? And then you turned it on for your profile?

URL Rebuilding only works if the file type is set up to not truncate parameters.

Finally, content groups are a great feature of WT that I use constantly. You don't need to define them by adding page tags, you know. Content Groups are easily defined in the UI. However, sub-content groups can't be set up through the UI, so if you really need them, you have to use tags.

A lot of WT users stick with UI-defined Content Groups. Drill-downs are overhyped!
