Is there a way that I can block access to my website from viewers in certain countries? If so, how do you do it.

Yes this is possible and is used by most advanced ad servers and web sites to direct the right person to the right page or site.

While I was in London SES I tried to access a recent show from abc.com - it had not been shown in England yet so I got a video screen that said I was in an area where it could not be accessed... the local broadcast station needed to show it first so they could sell advertising

blocking visitors by country is possible through geo IP address recognition and redirects.... and is a legitimate method

If you don't market products in a particular market, you might want to block visitors. ;)

Yes, GeoIP from Maxmind works effectively well. We only allow the countries that we sell to access to pricing and the shopping cart. We've tested it all over China and it works well. Ongoing cost is minimal but implementation cost was a bit high. I think about two weeks of programming time.

aussie webmaster how would someone like me do that.

iam awsom 50: one reason I was interested in blocking access is there is someone in a foreign country that stole my video on a video sharing site and repackaged it and uploaded it as his own. He had done this to 2 other people in the same video. When I confronted him/her they took it down and made no apologies for it.

I noticed through web site analytics that this person visited my site, but apparently did not stay long enough to steal my content. I would prefer to block his country from visiting so I don't have to be concerned if my talent is being stolen.
