why is the GA bounce rate different for a given page

for example between top landing, drill down and top visited

I must be missing something in the definition of bounce rate in Google Analytics because I thought it was defined as any time a visitor arrives and a page then does not go on to another page.

But is seems by this definition it should be the same for a page in all the stats assuming the time frame is the same.

No they wouldn't need to be the same.

Page A might be the top landing page with 500 vists and a bounce rate of 50%.

And page A might also be the most visited page with 1,000 visits and a bounce rate of 25% percent.

In that case the difference might be where the extra 500 visitors came from. Traffic sources can make a big difference in bounce rates.
