Correct URL Referrer Code for Google Analytics

Is there a prefered format to use for referrer information in tracking url?

(long time no post:) )
I've used a tracking url in the past such as tinyurl or urlbrief to track referrers from some banner ads and such.

I'd much more prefer to just add some info on the URL string from the banner to be able to track via Google analytics. I do see they have a tool to create a url but do I need to keep with that exact format?

Google's tool creates this:
www.mydomain.com/internalpage.aspx?utm_source=banner&utm_medium=108

Will this work just fine?
www.domain.com/internalpage.aspx?banner=108

Any suggestions?

SIDE NOTE/QUESTION: Will these links pass PageRank? If I 301 the url to the main page.. will that help at all?

You can access your?banner= argument; but the Google format will be much more powerful and easier to analyse

Thanks for the response:

I actually tried "my version" but couldn't seem to locate the stats via Google Analytics. I then changed the tracking url to match the format that Google will create for you and I have been able to see that stats.... so as far as for Google Analytics I'm better off using the "?utm_source=banner&utm_medium=108" format.

Just as you said :)
