Google Analytics - Changing domains

Moving from sub-domains to country-specific TLD's

We currently operate 10 websites that use a 2-letter country prefix to our domain.
de.example.com
fr.example.com
it.example.com
etc..

We are in the planning stages of moving to country-specific TLD's. example.de example.it etc. We have been collecting them over the years and finally own all 10!

The 301's, datafeeds, affiliates, adwords campaigns and other usual suspects are already covered.

My question is this: Is it safe to simply edit the current profile(s) to reflect this change, or should we create new profiles?

Has anyone gone through this experience and would like to share their thoughts? Thanks :)

I'd keep them separate. you still want to know who's linking to - and going to - the old subdomains, as well as what's happening to the 'site'. So run both.
