instead of a counter you should just go with a log analyzer program, that will show your stats

take a look at awstats, it's free

If he needs an independent counter, he cannot use AWStats on his server. Such stats would be easy to forge.

Ive use that statcounter, didnt really like it but I can see how it could be useful in this case.
