Hi Folks!

Just a quick WebTrends question - I'm using 7.5 and when viewing the visitors section of reports it shows this IP => 192.168.1.54_No Agent

That is the IP address of the website itself. Is my site visiting itself? ;-)

I'd just exclude that IP from analysis but before I do I'd like to know why it shows up in the reports.

As always - thanks VERY much for your help. Without you guys I'd have to spend a lot more time then I have on these things! :-)

Is the WebTrends program running on the same machine as your site server? Then that's the cause.

If not, then do you have some kind of monitoring program happening?

Is more than one computer on that IP address, i.e. is the IP a proxy?

Hi cgrantski - thanks for replying!

The WebTrends program is running on a separate workstation but the webserver has several IP's bound to it.

The 192.168.1.54_No Agent ip address is the one for the website I am reporting. My other sites also show an internal IP in the same manner (except it's the internal IP that the site uses).

I do have a separate Proxy Server but it's address is 192.168.1.25 so if it was making requests or updating it's cache I would expect to see that IP.

I don't have any monitoring software on those sites. I can't really think of anything that would cause the site to log a visit from itself. Very strange....

I'm stumped. Maybe this is an operating system thing or something in your CMS... it's now officially out of my league. I hope somebody else comes up with the answer; it's interesting.

Thanks for considering the issue - I'll ponder on it some more and when/if I case it I'll post back as it is curious :-)
