Is there a way to generate a monthly view report ...

I want to see how many visitors have been coming to my site on a monthly basis, for comparative reasons.

Yes. When you create a report in the AdWords admin, the first item under "Settings" is "View Unit of Time" and Monthly is one of your choices.
