Breaking it down about google bot

I see google bot appearing when I check stats using Awstats. It lists each entry as a hit. Does 1 hit equate to Google indexing/ downloading 1 page of my site?

Each hit probably refers to google touching one something on your site. Every image it grabs is a hit, every page, robots.txt, and anything else it can grab will be a hit. If you have a lot of images, the hit count and page count will be off significantly.
