I am hosting it with [registerfly.com ]
They have some stats thing that are Generated by [mrunix.net ]
Well it's nice enough but I would like to get more information, like what people are typing that visit my site for each page, or other useful stuff.
I found the AWStats which looks like it might answer a few questions for me, (unless you know of a better one) but the doco looks like it is for people who have access to the hosting server, and a lot more knowledge than me.
Can I upload the AWStats to the host and have it run against my site, or is there another way?
Exactly what do I need to do?
I have a C:\My Webs\myweb2 folder that holds all my stuff for my site, like the image folder and all the pages and so on.
I am using Frontpage 2002 to build my site.
What I normally do to change my website is just make the changes and then select Publish Web in the Frontpage.
Can I use this to get the AWStats on my site?
Please help.
Clint.
Next, you can ask the hosting company if they can make your site's traffic log file data available to you for downloading to your own computer, where you can run a stats program on it (or analyze it with Excel, etc). Your site is running on Apache (I checked) so I'm guessing that your site's log file data is mixed up with a lot of other hosted sites' data in one giant log. If that's true, your hosting provider will have to go to a little trouble to extract the data for just your site and they'll probably say no, but you can never tell.
Next, you can move your site to another hosting company that provides better statistics.
Finally, you can give up on the idea of getting access to the traffic data that's kept on your hosting server, and instead add code to your site's pages that sends traffic activity signals to a third-party statistics service that will give you better stats. There's almost always a charge for this, and I'm not up to date on what's out there. I know HitBox and WebTrends start at $35 a month, HitsLink starts at $10 a month, and there are others of course. When you're on vendors' sites checking them out, you should look for the terms "service" or "on-demand" which will tell you it's a third-party solution and not sofware that you need to have logs for. A lot of vendors sell both an on-demand service and software, so it gets confusing.
Good luck.
