Google may or may not have purposely chosen a name for their analytics product that has resulted in people shortening it to it "Analytics" in everyday conversation.

Maybe the confusion is happening because GA, being free, has introduced the word "analytics" to many people, so lots of people think GA ***IS*** the same as "analytics."

Just a comment. Possibly brilliance on Google's part. Confusing though for those of us trying to answer questions about "analytics".

Yeah they took a page from IBM. They always like to call their stuff by the generic term. I remember when they introduced their screen reader for the blind it was "IBM Screen Reader" I think it is very smart for them to call it that.

I absolutely agree cgrantski - the two words are NOT interchangeable. GA is just one tracking tool and people would do well not to overly rely on it as their sole source of wisdom.

For free analytics GA is not bad but it is certainly not what I would base all of my site/business decisions on.

Was google trying to confuse people with their name? I doubt it - they just like to be descriptive rather than creative.
