I am looking to implement a Tracking solution for a website I am working on but am not sure which avenue to go down.

Does every piece of software need to have a piece of javascript added to every page?

I was looking a Urchin, which has just been taken over by google, but they seem to really pushing the onDemand version, will they drop the Software version in their bid to take over the world!

Can anyone recommend a good piece of Software, I have a Win2k3 Dedicated Server and would prefer to keep in House.

Regards

Dave

We use NetTracker. It allows you to use tagging if you would like to or you can use the Log Files that your Web Server create. This would be a piece of software you install and have complete control over.

PM me if you need help finding it.

I second the NetTracker recommendation. Outstanding flexibility and reporting, particularly with the cross tab reports and the option to use page tagging or server plug ins, as Tony mentioned. There is a free demo available; I suggest you give it a try.

We have used Urchin and Webtrends, but found that they had too many bells and whistles. The only thing we really wanted to track was Total Traffic, Keyword Traffic, Search Engine Traffic and PPC traffic and conversion by keyword (both organic results and PPC conversions by keyword).

I am sure these programs do this, but it was too complicated. We ended up building our own tracking system to track all of this and it works very well.

Send me a message if you would like to try it out.
