How does Google Analytics calculate % exit on a given page?

How does Google Analytics calculate % exit on a given page?

Are visitors that either click on an external link on our site or simply type in a new url in their browser counted the same way?

I've tried to find a comprehensive definition of exit for GA, but to no avail.

Exit means "disappears" or "was last seen on such and such page."

Unless you have special code in your links that go to another site (few sites do) then, yes, both things you mentioned are exits.
