I just reset my stats. I'm horrified to find that 73% of all my pages served are Error 404 pages :( I've been thru every internal link on my website and not had 1 Error 404 page show up for any internally linked page. #*$!? How can this be, and how to track it down?

I use the BBClone stats package to follow my stats. Most of these Error 404 errors are from WinXP/Internet Explorer visitors (but that probably just coincidence). Typically what I see for a visitor is they get an Error 404 page, they stay on the page for maybe 25 minutes and within that time get multiple hits of maybe 15 times.

What's going on here?

Ok. I found the problem by using a link checker. It wasn't any of my links which was causing the problem, it was a badly formed url to one of my graphics which got used on every page. I'd omitted the left " from the url to the graphic. This is what was causing so many Error 404 messages to get logged.
