Im hoping someone can help...

I have a file on my server, that is redirected to another more current page on my site...using a 301 Moved Permanenetly redirect.

According to my tracking application this page is the 4th most popular page on my site this month....over 600 hits.

I have never, ever had that much traffic on that page....

Let alone you can not navigate to it within my site....

if anyone would like to help me, i will provide the URL....but i can not find where it is coming from, how users are getting to it....anything....it is boggling me...

anyone got any ideas or solutions on how to find where this traffic could be coming from?

Is there anyway someone could have hijacked the page to have it redirect to a different site? If so, a SPAMMER may be using it to redirect traffic.

would they be using it to redirect traffic to their site?

explain hijacking and how they could be benefiting from it?

If the file was hijacked to redirect traffic to their site, they could send their SPAM e-mail with YOUR domain. People who click on the link end up on the SPAMMER's site, but people would blame YOUR site for the SPAM (if they didn't follow the link).

The specifics of how they could do this depends on your server configuration and the specific file doing the redirection.

crap...and i just noticed over the past day or so that ive been getting emails from webmaster@mydomain.com

what can i do to combat this?

should i dump the page and leave it as a 404 page not found error?

so it sounds like they are sending out all of thier email spam, and they are coming to my site via the link theyare putting up?

BUT if their link is going to my site, and i have it redirected, to a current page on my site....

how is the traffic going to their site?

Ok, and here is also what is tripping me out...

we use WEBCEO as our traffic monitor....

and they are stating in the "Navigation Paths" secition that this month 96 users went from the home page to my page with the 301 Moved Permanently redirected page....

there is no way to get to that page from the home page...period.
