Who is this unknown visitor that keeps comming back?

Unknown visitors- types and possible sources.

They don't have reffering links. They come back day after day. Sometimes at the same time, sometimes not. When you check your stats, somethng about it sticks out. They tend to only visit your start page. I'd imagine it's quite common.

What are the possible sources of these kinds of visitors? I know about search engine bots, but what other kinds of bots are there?

It could be a bot checking to see if your server is still up. We might be able to provide some more help if you shared with us the lines from you logs showing this activity.

If your home page has an image, is that image also being loaded? That's a good signal whether it's a real person or a bot. But it doesn't sound like a bot to me. (Same if the request if HEAD vs. GET. If a bot is just checking to make sure a link is good, I am guessing it would request HEAD.)

The only thing I can think of is that you are someone's home page. Wouldn't that be flattering?
