I work for a company that designs and hosts websites, among other things. They have webtrends 8, and on my first days at work they asked me to set up some accounts for their customers.

I create the profile for a website, and I create a user with the same name so that I know what user is for that profile. My problem is this, I have done this for 4 users, and all 4 users have access to all the profiles.

What I want to do only allow the X user see the report for the X profile. However, in the drop down menu that appears, he can select all of the profiles, therefore viewing the statistics for the other sites.

From the users properties i have tried selecting View Reports & View templates rights, but then it automatically selects view profiles as well. I then select which report I want that user to see when he logs in, but still this does not restrict him from viewing the others.

Can you help me? I know this is very easy to do, but I'm frustrated and because I only just started working for that company, I wouldnt want to tell them I can't do it.

Hmmm, I just got a reply from the previous person working in that company. My mistake was that I should only select "view templates" right in the users tab, and then go to the profile I want and in Administration individually select the users that I want to have access to this profile and view its report.

So problem solved!
I will now focus on getting to know how webstats works, to understand the more advanced reports and how to take advantage of them.

Thanks for taking the time to read my post!

You might want to give them access at the individual template level instead of globally. Sooner or later you'll be learning how to use templates to create specialized views for individuals and you'll want certain individuals to see the profiles in template-specific ways. Also, if you give them global access to all templates, it's a time bomb for later confusion on their part if they see that list.

As a newbie you'll have lots of questions. I suggest joining the WebTrends user-to-user forums at forums.webtrends.com --- there is a lot of pent-up knowledge there that is specific to this product. (However you'll probably find, like I do, that you will keep going to webmasterworld. This is where the bigger picture is.)
