User drop off rates for multi-page articles?

We're breaking up articles into multiple pages. What to expect?

Hello

This is my first post--I'm really excited to discover Webmaster World!

We're in the process of a site redesign, in which we're breaking up our very long articles (5000 words) into multiple pages. Currently these 5000 word pieces sit on one page. I'm being asked to estimate how much add'l page views this effort should generate.

Is there an industry-accepted drop off rate for users with multi-page articles? IE, expect your clickthrough rate to cut in half for each add'l page?

If there's not an accepted drop off rate, can anyone offer up their experience? We're an established publisher of high quality business articles behind a subscription wall.

Not sure page views is a meaningfull measure in your case, sure breaking into smaller chunks will increase page views, but that doesnt mean more of your content is being read. As you work on a subscription basis I assume your content is not available to search engines, so more pages will not bring more visitors?

Sorry cant directly answer your question. Determine your reason for breaking up articals, and check if they are valid.
