Relationship between Pages Crawled and Future Traffic

Hi,

I'd like to better understand any relationship between the number of pages search engines crawl and potential search engine traffic. Recently I added a sizeable amount of content to a site and Google has responded by crawling around 8000 pages a day which is much more than usual. While that seems to be a good thing I'm wondering if there's any way to predict actual traffic. Do these stats mean there should be at least some significant rise in SE traffic, or is the jump in Google's visits not enough in itself to expect more visitors from search engines?

I don't think there is any relationship at all between a crawl and visitors, once you get beyond the obvious of of a crawl being required before you can appear on the SERPs - more crawling does not mean more visitors because more crawling does not imply a higher ranking
