In fact the question is how important are the reports about technical characteristics of the visitors' computers? I mean their operation system, screen resolution etc.

That would depend, I think, upon how important those factors are in using your site.

For instance, if your site displays graphics which require a certain screen resolution in order to prevent horizontal scrolling, then the screen resolution would matter. If information in graphics is dependent upon the viewer being able to make color distinctions, then monitor color depth might matter. And so forth.

I use Google Analytics to supplement the stats that are compiled on the server.

It's also useful to know which browsers your visitors are using so you can make sure the site displays will be displayed well with all of them.
