Why Spam a Login Box

I get my fair share of log file spammers but recently I'm getting a lot of spam trying to login to a members area. They seem to be putting keywords into the username field and leaving the password field blank.

This is silly as all it does is cause a list of failed entries in a failed login log file. All that is listed is the username they used but no refering site.

Besides. The failed entries log is only visible to an admin rather than the general public so why do they do it?

Are they trying to attract the attention of lonley admins?

Perhaps it's a bot that's created to automatically spam guestbooks?

It probably submits a few fields like name, message, e-mail to your login check from it's own machine instead of your login screen.
