While checking referrers through AWstats, I found quite a few visitors from urls like
[10.0.1.201...]
and many similar URLs
(I have replaced the name with abc)

when I use a URL lookup it shows that the IP is a private address. Any idea how I can trace the address or find out more about the website. the link in Awstats does not work

Those are coming from inside your own network, or rather from inside the internal network that the web server is on. They are private in the sense of being not available on the wide internet. Each company or hosting service or whatever can use 10.* addresses (and some others) for inside its organization. The same 10.* address can be used over and over again within different networks or intranets or whatever you want to call them. But those same computers/users, as soon as they go outside their network, have a "public" address also.

Hope this makes sense. Basically you have an internal monitoring service, or an internal person (possibly yourself!) hitting your own web site.

Thanks, but I work on a standalone computer . Also I work alone and no one else uses my PC. Do you think that my computer/server has been hacked? How do I prevent this?

As McElvoy states this is a local address, but probably from user behind a firewall or proxy doing address translation, rather than your local network. Cant see any way to trace it.

Is there any way I can block this referrer? Some additional page views are recorded by Google Adsense, which are not recorded by Awstats, if there is a problem I will not even have website logs
