site:domain.com
-> returns all pages indexed by Google. Does this include pages that are in Google's Supplemental results?

site:www.domain.com -www
-> returns all pages in Google's Supplemental index.

Can anyone help?

It depends on what is going on with your site.

Some sites that installed a 301 redirect within the last year are seeing a fluctuation in pages indexed and supplementals coming and going. As long as your Keyword rank is up where it should be then don't worry about it too much. See the google search forum for more info.

site: and inurl: are somewhat temptamental of late.

site: generally includes supps
inurl: generally excludes supps

suggest doing these 3 searchs to verify things working

site:www.example.com
inurl:www.example.com
site:www.example.com -inurl:www.example.com

Third should show only supps. Totals should aprox tally.

Using www.example OR example.com OR www OR www.example.com/path etc gives less reliable results in my experience.

Back in June Goo ‘apparently’ fixed the ‘site:’ command (http://sitemaps.blogspot.com/2006/05/issues-with-site-operator-query.html) as it was having some problems prior to that.

Is it all better now? The jury is still out. As such I don’t count it as a reliable metric. What is clear is that the whole site:non www and site: www discrepancies is still a problem stat hasn’t been addressed that I know of.

The "fix" as I understand was to include supp results in site: search, for better or worse. This has complicated matters then site: is mixed other search terms that exclude supp results. A far cleaner solution would be to allow the user to select which index(s) to include for entire search.
