404 Errors w/homepage showing as referrer

I'm starting to get a bunch of errors for an ad banner and a search page that show my homepage as the referrer, but my homepage never links to or sources these objects.

I don't really understand how this can happen.

The objects are:
/megan_genericitsbetter_468x60_vaca-bts.gif
/search1.php

The first seems to be an ad banner for cheaptickets (not on my site)
http://images.tr...60/megan...60_vaca-bts.gif [images.trafficmp.com]

The IP's requesting the objects are different and seem to be legit (e.g. *.edu's and others).

Any thoughts on what is going on here?
