Im trying to figure out if AOL IP's are individual per machine or if an IP is for a large block of AOL users?

i.e 152.163.100.203....

Whois results

IP Location: United States - New York - Brooklyn - America Online
Does this mean the user is in brooklyn?

name type result
203.100.163.152.IN-ADDR.ARPA.
PTR
cache-rtc-ad09.proxy.aol.com

Can anyone shed some light on this?

in my experienbce they are in blocks

the IP has nothing to do with where the user is located

ban one, ban a ton

Thats what I thought....You really cant ban them because AOL users are the best customers you could ever wish for

Maybe I'm misunderstanding the way blocks is being used here but the problem with AOL is one page (and all it's objects) might be retrieved by a multitude of IP Addresses. It's not unusual for me to see
the same number of unique IP Addresses as there are objects on the page.

AOL can leave more than one IP for a page and it's content files.

For instance:
x.htm IP-1
1.jpg IP-2
2.jpg IP-3

etc.

I have found multiples of even 8 IP's for a single "page Impression"

AOL is very upfront about publishing the addresses of their proxy servers... if you go to their webmaster site, you can find it under "AOL Network / AOL Proxy Info"

There's a geographic relationship between AOL proxies and users, isn't there? It's not exact, but it's pretty good .... kind of like what Akamai does.
