Pop Ups as referrals

I have a query. I want to know is a vistor who clicks on an automatic pop up and is led to another website. In the logs th referrer is he site on which the pop up was or is it counted as a direct visit?

The proper referer should be from the site the popup is on

[example.com...]

a popup is just like any other page after all
