Is there anyway to view hidden stats from a competitors website to see how many hits there actually getting?

Some sites have their stats accessible. Try common folders like "stats". "webstats", "logs" etc.

If they are password protected, then I guess they don't want you to see them.

Most businesses won't let you look at their books either.

The stats are hidden of course you can't see them or put in a password, but I was wondering if there were someway to find out.

My competitor says shes getting 1-2million hits a month and sometimes does not even show up in the top ten of the search and I do alot and I am not getting those hits. She pays for to be on top with overture but I have paid overture and still don't get these hits.

I was just trying to find out the truth if she is really getting this many hits. Thanks

You might have some luck with Alexa ranking. I know it's not precised, but it's better than nothing.

hits!= traffic

If she has gaphic intense pages she might only be getting a fraction of those numbers as page views or visits. 10 images a page and her actual page views might drop into the 100k range.

Stats are notoriously misleading...

I appreciate all the help. I went to alexa and she does have a rating within the 100,000. I still don't understand since you can't hardly ever find her in a regular search. You always find her advertising with overture. I have used overture and don't see much difference in sales if any. When you type in certain keywords i am number 2 in the reg search with yahoo, and that is pretty good but yet i don't even rank in alexa. Any suggestions?

Try this site: [metricsmarket.com...]

It's been mentioned here on WebmasterWorld before, and some have said it's not reliable. However, I've found that it's within the 5-15% margin of error on any site I've checked where I already know what the actual traffic is.
