Since shortly I am the proud owner of a website. After months of discussing wether or not we need a website, we finally agreed to make one for our Belgian basketbal team. I got behind my computer and started up swish. That was the easy part.
Together with our DSL-account you get 50Mb. So I redirect my domain name to my account. Also easy. This account come with ONE free counter.
So what happens? We get around 900 hits a month for only our little website! Seems like the whole community is interested!
That means we have to grow too : after all my babbling ;-)
1. I want to improve my position in Yahoo, Google,...Now I am around position 50, but I want to be on the first page. How do I improve my position? How does it work? Any links to documentation? And is there software to do so? Free or at cost.
2. I want to know who is visiting. Any help here too?
3. Any other consideration to make?
4. Are there any servers with free php? Here in Belgium you just have to pay for everything....
These are pretty simple questions for you guys (I read some of the other topics), but I am new in this, so, any help is welcome.
Thanks a lot!
Regarding who's visiting, you might just want to obtain copies of your site logs and open them in excel or another program. I think everybody should start with this step, because that line-by-line examination is an education all by itself. If your logs don't have a header line showing what each field is, ask the hosting company. Once you understand what's in logs, you can think about using a log summarizing ("analysis") program, of which there are many free but basic ones. However, your hosting company may already supply statistics of some kind.
