Hi all,

Does anyone know if you can see in the log files if a visitor has come from adwords on google or has clicked on the organic listings.

is there anything that would stand out in the logs or something?

any help appreciated

cheers

From reading this and the Adwords forum, I learned to but "reference tags" in my URL's when setting up adwords ads -- such as:

www.sitename.com?ref_g1

You can change the text after the? for each ad that you create, and get full tracking of various ads. This has worked well for me so far.

The only issue is the "ref_g1" tag (or whatever you use) shows up in the browser address bar when the user visits the site, something I would like to eliminate, but I don't think that is possible.

You can use Apache mod_rewrite to remove the query string and redirect.

Hello Wigsy,

I'm not sure if this helps, but you can get a service like ConversionRuler, which will show you exactly how many visitors you've received from AdWords. There's some simple setup needed (the time it'll take you depends on how many keywords you've got up and running, and how many parameters you'd like ConversionRuler to track).

BTW, I'm NOT a ConversionRuler rep... just have been using their system for a while.

Cheers,

Lydia
