On Tuesday 8-10-2004 all of my site stats and logs were screwed up due to this site scanning every single page on my site. I have over 14,000 pages and it looked like they viewed every one of them.

My daily log file which is generally 10M was 24M for that day.

Upon further checking it was all due to the same site in Germany - kori530-A236.OTENET.gr otherwise known as 62.103.222.153.

Does anyone know how to track down the owners of German sites?

What does it mean when they look at every single page on your site?

Has anyone had this happen to them?

I believe what might have actually happened is that someone has a "website ripper/downloader" and just pulled every single page off your site.

That actually seems to be an ISP there. I could be wrong though.

Hi Michael, that address is from Greece not Germany. The Germans refer to Germany as Deutschland hence the .de domain name suffix. But yes, you've definitely been "scraped".

Abuse report him immediately if you haven't done so. The only time I reported a site scraper (because it was extensive) the ISP were very helpful about it.

As an aside, I notice from a little googling that he visited the "Democritis University of Thrace" website recently. Oh and that he may speak Spanish.

Not taking alleged site scaper's side, but on the basis of what laws ISP can do anything to the guy who merely downloaded pages from publicly accessible website?

Had he republished it without permission on his ISP, then without question one can get site pulled, but mere download appears to be fine from legal point of view...
