I have had enormous difficulty trying to determine the correct cgi script/program to use.

On most sites, when you would click on a text link that takes you offsite, the status bar reveals something like...

/cgi-bin/jump.cgi?2234 or whatever..

This script Logs the count and sends the visitor to whatever website url you have told the cgi script is 2234

Could somebody provide alittle insight into specifically what TYPE of script this is?

Looking through cgi redirection scripts only provides me programs for drop down links or boxes.

Any help is appreciated...

gatekeeper,

Most of the commercially available tracking tools will have this feature.

It is a simple redirect, but usually it will involve the depositing of a cookie to enable transactional visits to be recorded and tracked back to the initial visit.

The terminology is always a tricky one. Providers may include Adminder, Hypertracker, Nedstat, Adtrackz, Hitbox and many more, you should get a decent trail from those.

Hope that helps.

I use 2 redirects for each of my redirects, partially because I sell traffic to other sites, and don't want to give everyone the benefit of links from my well ranked site. I use a cgi script, and send that redirect to a hypertracker redirect. I find that this way I get a good count on clicks (from hypertracker) and google doesn't give credit for the links to people I'm linking to - I think this is because the bot doesn't make it past the cgi script....but I may be crazy.
