Hi

Sorry - I realise this isn't a WebTrends technical forum per se, but people here use it and may have come across the same problem and I can't find any answers in NetIQs frankly useless knowledge base.

All I am trying to do is move my installation of Webtrends Log Analyzer 8 from one machine to another (Windows). I reinstalled it on the new machine then realised it was saying that there were 2 activations of the same license. I assumed this was because I hadn't 'deactivated' the original installation. So I went and did that - still no difference. So then I stopped the service on the original machine - still no difference. Then I completely uninstalled the original insatllation - still no difference

Have I missed something? Do I need to do something else to properly deactivate the first installation?

Any ideas or suggestions welcome

Was the original machine with the first installation connected to the internet when you uninstalled? And had you flipped any switches within the original installation that made WT run without checking back with the mother ship? (I don't remember where to find that switch ...) And did you uninstall using Control Panel uninstall or just wipe things out?

As I understand it, the original installation needs to tell WT license control that it has been uninstalled. I just did this yesterday and the fix was immediate, so I'm guessing that somehow the main site doesn't know about the uninstall.

The machine should have been on the internet when the uninstall was done, and i saw the popup saying it was contacting webTrends to deactivate the license, but maybe the mother ship didn't get the message (our net connection has been tempremental today) because its still saying I have 2 activations and still listing the original machine in the 'Current Activations' list

I might give it the weekend and see if it needs time to catch up - its late on a Friday afternoon here - time to go to the pub :-)

Damn - no joy. Its still saying 2 activations. Any ideas what to do if deactivation has failed? The WebTrends knowledge base has no information on this at all.

Best thing to do would be contact NetIQ...

NetIQ - Support Contact Information [netiq.com]

Hi!

My recommendation would be to phone or email webtrends directly. They have a great technical support team.

Most software vendors will give free technical support for installation issues.
