I'm thinking of buying Mach5 for our website because although our hosting company provides us with a web stats tool, it's not adequate for our needs. I love the visual interface of Mach5 plus the fact that it tracks traffic flow across the site.

I've never installed a web stats software on a web server before. We have shared hosting. Do I need my hosting provider's permission? How does Mach5 come: a zipped file, a Perl file etc and where do I install it on my server? How easy is it to set up, and then get running? Will I have to make some changes to my site to make Mach5 work?

Sorry for such newbie questions, but I know alot of you use Mach5 so your advice will be invaluable.

Cheers!

I forgot to say that our server is not Windows. I think (but am not sure) that it's Apache. Certainly we use Perl as our scripting language.

From the Support page:

[mach5.com...]

It appears that the app runs client side and can be configured with your FTP info to automatically download the server logs and parse them.

In that case - no server config is necessary.

Thats correct, the program is client side so there is nothing to install on the server.

Its pretty easy to get up and running as long as your log files are in a supported format. You should probably read the documentation on the mach5 website before you decide to purchase.
