A website that give instant stats on other websites

Need to know yesterday!

I recently came across a website that allows you to see the latest web stat on a website. You just need to type the URL in a slot on the website and viola! you have your number of visitor traffic, rank etc. Can anyone tell me the name of this or any other website that does this, I seem to have forgotten the name.

That stat tool looks like its just an estimator. I tried a few smaller websites and they don't show up at all.

Well that site was eye-opening. I take it all with a grain of salt of course, but from what this is telling us, we're way behind our competition in terms of traffic... Going to need to work hard this summer to improve that.

Hmm, I don't think I understand.

It showed our "Estimated Traffic" at 180,000 visitors past 30 days. I look at our NetTracker and it shows approx. 90,000 "Visits" and 900,000 Page Views.

My understanding is that NetTracker does not use cookies to get its figures and we have it filter Local LAN hits as well as spiders.

What's the deal I wonder?

There is a download in the NetTracker site that runs on your server to create a cookie on the users machine that can better track a user. Has given me much better stats since I started using it.

That site is a nice "find." Re previous questions about validity of the Stats. There is a "qualifier" on the site about its stats. Also, some stats are definitely bad. I have several domain sites, and several that are not domain, from the old days when you could get "free" sites -- these are sites that appear to be domain, but the URL is something like www.x.example1.com, or www.x.example2.com, where the first part (x) is a unique name.

When I enter those sites, the figures are defintely bad, they show visitors in the millions, when I know the sites only get about 10,000 unique a month or less. The millions must be because those non-domain sites are sharing hosting with every other "x.example1.com" or "x.example2.com" free site, and the stats are thus those for all of them, not my one site.

Anyway, it ain't perfect, but after testing it on my domain name sites, and on some competitors where I already had a good idea of their busines (but not their traffic), it yielded farily accurate results.

bateman: we use our own cookie system and have statistics indepentant of NetTracker that we could rely on. We only use NetTracker to get a global overview of what's going on.

We also host the site in-house and it has it's own dedicated IP and has for years.

Anyone got anymore ideas. I would ask the people but I don't really want to give them direct information about our traffic (was hesitent to even post it here).

Must be some sort of glitch in their system. I typed in my humble little website address and it came back saying I had "Estimated 12,279,000 visitor sessions in the last 30 days." I WISH - LOL! Try 104,000 is more like it......

Another reality check: 150,000 estimated, 75K actual for one of our sites.
