pipe delimited file - ---

looking for a way to collate info

we have zip codes from our zip code search database written to a pipe delimited file - we need a way to coolate and view the lines of the database -

-- for instance we would like to see how many times zipcode 55412 was pulled up -

here is a few lines of the file...

If you want to do it offline just download the file , do a find and replace on "¦" replacing it with "," (comma), then you just import the cleaned file into access, filemaker pro or any standard database for viewing and tweaking.

how can i easially collate the information into a report based on zipe code or date for instance...

we would like to see the most common occurences...

maybe a report something similar to the we a web logging app reports usage

Lots of companies have a copy of Access lying around. Import your database into that, then use the query wizard to generate various reports. Its easier than programming, harder than find/replace.

Use common *nix tools, e.g. awk, sort, uniq, sed

awk '{print $1} logfile ¦ sort ¦ uniq -c ¦ sort -nr

Or if you really want to import it into Access, you can convert the pipes to commas:

sed 's/¦/,/g' logfile > logfile.new
