I'm looking for a simple freeware routine for tracking clicks on links. I want something that's friendly for search engines. I'm guessing I'm looking for something that works by adding an extra bit of code to a URL on my site i.e.:
a href=cgi-bin/clickcount.pl?url=www.domain.com
Any suggestions for a routine that's "simple, works, free, won't bog down the click" is appreciated.
Would also be nice if the routine had a simple interface for viewing the click counts by date and URL.
I realize the count won't be accurate. I'm just looking for ballpark numbers.
I successfully installed the "maian" system.
My question is whether the search engines will actually see the link properly. In order for the maian system to work, you have to use your domain name instead of the domain you're linking to to log the hit i.e.:
[yoursite.com...]
Do the search engines crawl / process / know what the actual link is?
