Does it really exist yet?

I've seen the above ua several times in my logs this week; all from the same IP Address that traces back to what appears to be a customer's DSL account. I can't seem to find any information on MSIE 7.0. Do you all think this is a spoofed ua, or is it legit?

Respectfully, Mozilla Firebird no longer exists. It's changed names yet again and is now called Firefox. :)

MSIE 7.01 comes here every day twice to deliver its logspam from czech republic. Banned it until a real MSIE 7 will be released. Very annoying.

There are some browsers that give their users the option of what UA info is sent to the logs. (Doesn't Opera allow this?) If the user has done so, and the browser they are actually using does have a 7.0 version, you might get a "spoofed" reference to MSIE 7.0 in your logs, without any malicious or devious intent.

I'm not quite sure why users want/need to fool the logs in this way, but it does happen.

I don't think opera allows for deviations from those it has by default (Opera, IE6, Moz various etc)- if it does, I've not found it. Phoenix-nay, Firebird-nay, Firefox has a user agent toolbar that allows for any input, so that could do it.

Jeez, didn't even know about the firefox thing, that must have happened in the past week? Guess i'll be downloading that right now. And spoofing it very easy, anyone with a little programming knowledge can also spoof it if they have a program that crawls, and maybe the people from czech republic are crawling for email addresses.

The Opera 7.22 I have here does not allow you to set any UA string. There are some predefined values.
For Mozilla et al, there is at least one UA toolbar out there which allows you to select any UA string.

Spoofing your UA is pretty easy. But Longhorn is being Alpha tested, and IE6 is still there...

Its so easy to change your user agent in IE. A few clicks on regedit.exe would do it (I've done it).

Anyone can do it easily, but when you know its not true, why bother?
