I am trying to find a good tracking system that monitors site traffic properly can anyone help me please

There are many, and much information here about each of them.

I would recommend, because I use it, Web Trends.

It offers plenty of info and does a good job.

The only downfall, that I am running into right now, is that you have to run the report on each sub-domain seperately instead of all together.

I'm partial to NetTracker Pro. It's a very powerful analyzer overall, and its unique capability is drilling down through your data. Every data-point is a hyperlink that you can click and expand to a greater level of detail. For example, a list of referrers might show xyz.com is a major source of traffic, sending you 100 visitors yesterday who viewed 300 pages. Clicking on the xyz.com title would show you detail for referring pages. Clicking on the "visits" number would list them individually. Clicking again on an individual visit would show you the path that visitor took through the site. VERY powerful.

Having said that, if you want quick, pretty graphs for a client, WebTrends is probably easier. WT is frustrating, though, because it lacks drill-down capacity. You may see that Googlebot visited 30 pages, but you can't tell WHICH 30 pages without reanalyzing the data with a special filter you create.

my webhost doesn't include refferers in the logs - I should probably feel quite bitter about this - so at the moment I am using thecounter.com which I would describe as fair to middling and verging on mediocre, but it does do everything it says on the tin. You may outgrow it like we have - I'm taking an interest in this thread for the same reason as your good self.

Analog and an early MKStats (Webtrends). Analog's advantage is that it's so readily customisable and can be configured to lump together sub-domains as required. (Agerhart, this may be something you guys have been looking for.)

I find Analog very good for overall statistics and Webalizer god for Month to Month Stats.
