This may not help much, but it's some Java application using the built in HTTP calls. It may be very hard to figure out. It like saying "Internet Explorer" is hitting my server...how do I know who they are?

I would say it maybe more worthwhile to track down "who" based on IP rather than "what." There is a good chance they may have accessed your site with a real web browser in the past, so it may be worth checking your logs for that IP. That's where I'd start.

Or you could just ban the ip, or redirect to an "email me now" web page just for them.

Cheers :) I guess I'm wondering if there is anything to gain by allowing whatever it is to have access? I suspect not....

I would recommend allowing Java/ and Python.urllib from Google IP addresses. It is used for some of their "Google Tools".

Other than that, your discretion...

It must be the User Agent of Xbrowser or a link checker.
University students as for my site looking for page updates.
