tracking with whois search

is there a way to automate this?

I have a tracking system set up and a few traps set for hackers, harvesters and theves. And every time I catch one I jump into search mode to see if this is a fixed IP, if it belongs to a company, etc.

What I think would be nice is if there was an way that I could grab the IP (which is simple) then feed it into a script that would return the whois data and send it to me by e-mail.

From there I could decide to do some manual edits to my ban list or just hit delete and move on.

Does anyone know of a simple way to get whois data using a script? Is there a site that makes it possible to pull this info automatically?

do you've got a whois command in your shell? if yes, then simply call it with the data you grab and send the output via email to you. how about that?
