Only partial content delivered

How to stop it and what does it mean

I'm getting a significant number of error 206 (Only partial content delivered) being reported on my site by Analog - around 2% of total page imps. At first I put this down to the size of the files being too big, but closer inspection shows that some of these files are only a few tens of Kb.

I have a couple of questions that I would like to throw open to the expertise of Webmasterworld:

- Are these partial contents counted in my overall site stats (I assume they are since a request for a file has been made, but confirmation would be appreciated)

- What are the common causes of 'partial content' (other than files too big for users to wait for)

- How can I reduce the number of 'partial contents' that I'm getting.

mod_gzip might be of help at least to decrease the number of people who close the browser window while waiting for your (slow?) pages to download. In most cases it also has a good impact on the servers load average, afaik (I know that's not logical, but seems to be the case).
