How come I keep getting hits from an AOL proxy server?

AOL proxy server hitting my site?

I'm managing a site that hasn't been found by the search engines yet. When I go to check the traffic logs, I see that most of my hits are from Virginia (which is odd, since I don't know anyone from there), and not the state I'm from.

Most of the IP addresses I log are like this -

64.12.96.70
RDNS - cache-mtc-ac01.proxy.aol.com

Is this some sorta bot? I feel I have a pretty good understanding of Data Communications, but I'm sorta new to the whole web management thing, so go easy on me.

So essentially anyone who uses AOL is going to show up on my site like that?

That kinda stinks.

Hi skyshock21, Welcome to WebmasterWorld! :)

Most likely that visitor you're having is an individual using DSL. From what I understand, DSL subscribers are somewhat fixed and dial-ups rotate, one calling for images and the other calling for HTML (something like that). See: AOL and revolving IP Numbers......don't the ALL have that? [webmasterworld.com] for more.

I had one numerically verrrrry close to yours a few weeks ago.

Hey, thanks Pendanticist!

Yeah, I think I might have had that exact IP addy you listed hit my site actually.

So it's nothing malicious then? What did you find out about the one that was hitting your site?

BTW, cool bunch of people here... I think I may stick around for a bit.

You're quite Welcome.

The opposite, actually. I banned it via .htaccess via IP Number due to suspicious activity. I do not recall just what he/she was doing, but I don't ban off-hand either.

Keep coming back, there's more than enough room for everyone. :)
