Strange Referals

What's the drill here?

Getting quite a few of these in some logs. The logs are locked down so not public. The exact referring page had a boat loat of links to loads of mainly adult stuff.

Why? is my question.

OK, time for a little clarification.

For reason of the nature of the referral and their content I can’t give the url.

Lets say it is

Indiscriminate-url-listing-site.tv

So on the referring page is a lot of links with anchor text simply a number (0054) or similar. The link to my site is not on that page and refreshing does not alter the links.

I am just baffled as to what the reason for the site it. There is no obvious way back to a service.

A couple of weeks ago I had a referal from what seems to be the same site.
My site is not listed on their page either and the page only shows columns of numbers as links many of which are identical when you look at the source code.

No idea either and I haven't seen them since

Sounds like some free advertising for the other site.

I have seen some off things like that in my server logs as well. The only thing I can figure is that it is an advertisement for webmasters and the likes.

Are your stats public they may be trying to to get PR.

But so many stats ARE public. It'S an easy process to automate, just spider the web with the appropriate user agent, POOF 1000s of cheapo public stat links, if you're lucky and hit some slow sites, you'll still be on the stats when google hits, instant PR.

even PR0 or near 0 stat sites will add up when it get's into the 1000s.
