Hi,

I have come across a google SERP tracker called SEO Count, and I was wondering if anyone else uses it to monitor keyword positions in the search engines..

If not, are there any other good (legal) tools to use? It's taking too long to monitor them all by hand now...

Thanks,

Rob

If you find one, tell us about it. :(

For anyone who's interested SEO Count have a free 10 day trial at the moment, and it looks pretty useful.

It's based on the google API so its legal too, but as i mentioned above it only monitors google.

I've used SEO Count for a couple of months and it's very handy compared with the "by hand" method of checking Google SERPS. Running comparison of results provided too.

Formerly "Google Count", they're considering future SERP reports on other engines as well. They seem open to input for other helpful SEO ideas.

Google Web APIs - Terms [google.com]

If I'm not mistaken, this tool uses the Google API Key which you are required to secure prior to using the tool. I'd look real closely at the terms that Google has specified in regards to using your Google API Key.

This is the sentence that concerns me from the Google Web APIs Terms...

The Google Web APIs service is made available to you for your personal, non-commercial use only (at home or at work).

P.S. There may be some issues there. The service mentioned is charging which makes this a commercial venture. If you read this from the TOC, it should be cause for concern...

13. Can I develop commercial applications using Google Web APIs?

You can develop any application you want, but you must abide by the Google Web APIs terms of service. One condition is you cannot create a commercial service using Google Web APIs without first obtaining written consent from Google. Another is that you can only create one account for your personal use.

I'm going to assume that they do have written consent from Google. If not, ooops...

I looked into this, and Google know all about them and provide regular support about the use of the API to them.

One of the reasons that they changed the name from GoogleCount to SEO count was that Google didnt like the fact they were using their name, so I would be very surprised if they hadnt got explicit permission to provide this service.

What I am slightly worried about is that the API is still only in beta and Google make no guarantee that the service will be provided forever.

Despite this concern, I signed up to the full unlimited version and am very impressed with them. They are very good at customer service, and continue to improve the product.. they also are quick to implement good user suggestions which you can make in the forum on the site.

They also mention in the forum that wordtracker are due to release an API and hopefully this will be integrated into the service - which would be a very interesting addition to say the least.

Thanks folks - I am encouraged by your responses. I think taking a well considered approach to tools like this is paramount to keeping SEO practices "above board".

You rock.

I have just found a free service that provides a very similar service to SEOCount. It is run by "Digital Point Solutions", and is called a "Search Engine Keyword Tracker".

You should be able to find it from there ;)

It also uses the API.

It only handles one domain per account though, but it looks pretty useful.

It can also track backlinks using the API too, which is nice..

Bring in a little instability into SERPS and watch these tracking tools mushroom ;)

Just as a FYI, our tool is not limited to one domain per account. There are no limits (never was) to the number of keyword/URL combos you can have.

Oops ... sorry about that mistake.
